This week's creative theme at Inspire Me Thursday is "roots". I got an idea right away, but as I started painting the background, another thought came to me. So I went with it. I'm glad I did ... I really like how it turned out! The background and trees are acrylic paint and the writing is done with a Sharpie paint pen. The texture in the water at the top was from pressing a paper towel into the paint and then removing it. Love it!

You can see other interpretations here.

  1. This is wonderful. I love all the writing along the roots.

  2. I love your use of techniques. Your script incorperating the verse against the curve of the roots is striking.

  3. This is beautiful! Like Pilar, I love your use of techniques. Inspirational.

  4. Hi Jennifer,
I love this tree...and the words..the whole idea. You and I think alike. Even though I've posted a SoulCollage card for this challenge I also made a mandala of a tree...encompassed by words! I wanted to draw roots, but don't know how yet -- You drew what I imagined! What a blessing...thank you. (I will post that tree mandala before Thursday) -- and I see we are both from IL!
    Thanks for inspiring!

  5. I loved your picture, the image is stronge and the colors are so rich. You should be very happy. it could be the beginning of a new series.

  6. Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for your beautiful comments on My Singing Soul blog entry. ... and I'm so glad my mandalas were inspiration to get you going in your art journal. I love it when that happens!

I just posted my Tree of Life mandala at Inspire Me Thursday.-- Talk w/you soon, and thanks again!

  7. I first thought you had done a family tree but on closer look was delighted to find a caligram, one of my favourite arts...

    Thanks for dropping by.
